Activity: Brainstorm Boost

Boost your brainstorming and ideation with AI.

Introduction

We all hit brainstorming walls. Sometimes we don’t know where to start and feel like we are adrift in an ocean of uncertainty. Or perhaps our inner-critic seizes control, and every idea seems less inspired than the last. Well, here’s an idea for you — AI can help. Whether you're brainstorming a new product feature, the title of a marketing campaign, or a moonshot idea, you can use AI to unblock your creativity and get the ideas flowing.

For inspiration, check out this quick video about how Exploding Kittens co-founder and CEO Elan Lee uses AI to help him think up ideas for new games.

1. Get Started (5 minutes)

Ideate: List some things you’re working on that could use fresh ideas or brainstorming. They might be the name of a new product feature, a marketing slogan or a team-building exercise.

Choose: Select one item from this list that you'd like to brainstorm with AI. Decide if you would like to brainstorm together as a group, or work individually to brainstorm a topic of your own choice.

2. Plan (2-5 minutes)

Determine a specific goal for your brainstorm: What are you trying to accomplish with this brainstorm exploration? What is the end goal? (Jot the goal down if you’d like.)

AI Tip: Ask AI for tips on how to set a brainstorm goal.

3. Explore (15 minutes)

Prompt the chatbot with your initial brainstorm request. Be as specific as possible with your prompt, providing information like goal, audience, unique traits, and even character limit!

Review the output provided by AI — focus on those that seem promising and spark further ideas. (Put aside those that don’t.)

Dig further with your brainstorm — use additional prompts to combine or refine the output you receive.

After a few rounds of refinement and further brainstorming, select the most promising idea.

4. Reflect and Share (5 minutes)
Gather as a group to think and talk about what you learned from this exercise — share surprises, aha moments and challenges, and how your learnings and realizations could help you in your own work.
