Activity: Compare & Contrast
Introduction
Welcome to Compare & Contrast, where a new, emerging set of AI tools awaits your creativity, imagination, and explorations. Whether you have a problem to solve, an idea to come up with, or information you need, prompting different AI tools for the same thing can help you find the solution that is best for you!
What You'll Do
1. Get Started (10 minutes)
Ideate and choose: Brainstorm and choose at least one prompt you will ask 3 different AI platforms. Here are some different types of prompts and examples of each:
- Solution-based prompt: Think of a problem you need a solution for. Maybe it’s ways to improve a product that isn’t performing well, or perhaps there’s something in your personal life that you’re trying to work through.
For example: My chocolate brownies keep coming out too dry and crumbly. How do I make them pleasantly solid on the outside and moist in the middle? - Brainstorm-based prompt: Consider areas in your life where you could use some fresh, creative ideas.
For example: I'm bored of my morning exercise routine of 100 push-ups and 100 sit-ups. What exercises could I incorporate that would have a similar health benefit? - Task-based prompt: Think about a task that you do on a regular basis that can feel tedious and monotonous. Perhaps, it’s summarizing a document or drafting an email.
For example: Alphabetize a list of names and remove any empty cells.
2. Plan (5 minutes)
After you’ve chosen a prompt, write it out, and be sure to provide important details and context. Some examples:
I work for a start-up that creates physical games for children. Although the games have received amazing reviews from the children who have played our games (in testing environments), we have not figured out how to market to our customers. Without having any established footing in gaming business environment, how can we reach the kids that we know would love to be able to play our games?
What could be the name of a new game we're launching that involves a deck of cards, which, when drawn, prompts players with specific smaller games they have to play amongst each other?
3. Explore (15 minutes)
Input your prompt to the three different tools we suggest above (or pick other tools of your choice). For the most accurate “experiment,” provide the exact same prompt and wording to each tool.
Compare the first three answers you get. Take some time with your group to review and discuss them.
Continue your exploration by asking follow-up questions and building off the outputs and answers you are given. You may want to keep asking the exact same questions or slightly modify them based on the output you receive — you decide!
4. Reflect and Share (5 minutes)
Talk about what you learned from this exercise. Share surprises, aha moments and challenges, and how your learnings and realizations could help you in your own work.Tips & Suggestions
- Be as specific, detailed, and contextual as you can with your prompts.
- Really explore these platforms — both in how they respond to your prompts, and how easy or difficult they are to use.
- Approach the exercise with an open mind. Maybe you already have a favorite AI tool, or maybe you didn’t enjoy earlier explorations with another. For this activity, try to be as neutral as possible.
