Activity: Prompt Playground
Introduction
Welcome to the Prompt Playground, where a jungle gym of information awaits your creativity, imagination, and explorations. Whether you’re looking for fascinating facts, data dissection, or concise answers to complex questions, playing with prompts to refine how and what you ask AI, is the first step towards getting the information you seek.
What You'll Do
1. Get Started (5 minutes)
Ideate: Brainstorm tasks that require you to create titles for a piece of content (e.g., a blog post, a slide deck, or a website).
Choose: Select which item you want to create a title for, and decide if you want to work together as a group, or work individually, each with your own item.
2. Plan (2-5 minutes)
Write a sentence or two that describes the content you want to title.
3. Explore (15 minutes)
Prompt AI to create a title using the description you wrote or any other information you think might be helpful.
Once you get your results, play around with them!
Further prompt the chatbot in different ways, exploring a variety of titles. Consider asking for titles that are:
- more or less funny/pithy/direct/playful/visual
- aimed at a specific audience
- shorter or longer (pro tip: ask for a specific number of words)
- written with MBA-level words or 3rd-grade reading-level words
- a combination of results you’re given (We call that an AI mash-up!)
You can even prompt AI to “Try again” — this simple phrase can create endless possibilities!
AI Tip: Remember, you are the ultimate arbiter of taste for your task/project — don’t just rely on AI for the final version!
4. Reflect and Share (5 minutes)
Gather as a group to share your titles. Talk about what you learned from this exercise — share surprises, aha moments and challenges, and how your learnings and realizations could help you in your own work.Tips & Suggestions
- Be as specific and direct as you can with your prompts. Ask for exactly what you need and want!
- Build off of previous prompts: Ask for everything from alliteration to rhymes
- Get creative! Proceed without expectations or assumptions about the results you will get.
- Approach the exercise like you’re having a conversation but remember, AI is NOT human, so you can also be critical and persistent in ways you may not be with another person, in order to get the results that best meet your needs.
- Give feedback! AI tools are always learning, so if something is wrong, tell your AI tool, so it can iterate and improve.
